Selangor PR Pleads For Palace Intervention To Resolve The Water Industry Issue

SHAH ALAM, 25 JAN: The Selangor Pakatan Rakyat has sought intervention from His Royal Highness (DYMM) the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to solve the water industry crisis in Selangor.

Selangor AMK (Keadilan Youth Wing) Chief, Azmizam Zaman Huri said that the Selangor Government, through Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has, with all his might, has been desperately asking the Federal Government to restructure the water industry.

The holistic restructuring is so that the State Government can take over the water industry from the Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas – Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor).

“The restructuring of the water industry in this is for the betterment of the people.

“It is our hope to see our explanations and information to be taken seriously by Tuanku (His Royal Highness).

“We deeply appreciate the care and consideration given by Tuanku,” said Azmizam when reading the contents of the memorandum submitted to the Selangor Palace today.

The memorandum that was submitted was accepted by the Selangor Sultan’s Palace official, Rohisham Ahmad at Istana (Palace) Kayangan.

Also participating in the submission of the memorandum was Shah Alam MP, Khalid Abdul Samad and Seri Muda Assemblyman, Shuhaimi Shafiei, accompanied by about 50 Pakatan Rakyat supporters.

“We are confident the the Selangor Government is committed to finalising the water services industry restructuring towards a holistic services, viability and based of a balanced tariff for consumers.

“The action decided by the Chief Minister is in compliance with the law and ensures the welfare and well-being of the people.

“The Holistic Model proposed has been proved as an alternative solution for all comprehensive water supply management problems,” he said.

Earlier, they held a peaceful assembly in front of the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in Shah Alam, to state their support towards the Selangor Government in its efforts to take over water management from Syabas.

The assembly was also held in response to recent water supply disruptions that affected half a million residents in the Klang Valley, allegedly caused by Syabas’ failures.
