Anwar: Najib, Umno-BN Violated Peace Agreement

PETALING JAYA, 26 May: The peace agreement to respect the 13th General Election (GE-13) results was claimed to have been violated by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak from the beginning.

PKR De Facto Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the agreement which was signed by him and Najib can no longer be used after incidents of fraud during the campaign, the lack of media freedom and an unfair election process.

Previously, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that an agreement was made between Anwar and Najib where they expressed commitment to not attack one another personally during the campaign period.

The agreement which was arranged by the Vice-President of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla requested for Najib and Anwar to accept the results of the election.

“There is no need to look for fault in others if Najib personally violated the conditions (of the peace agreement).

“We already signed the conditions set but it did not happen,” he told reporters after the closing ceremony of the 9th PKR National Congress here at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Civic Hall yesterday.

Jusuf was reported to have claimed that Anwar violated the agreement which was mobilised by him in April, one month before the GE-13 was held.

Jusuf was reported to have said that he contacted Anwar a day after the GE-13 and asked the Opposition Leader to respect the commitment and to ‘see the reality’.

WSJ also reported that Anwar admitted that he made the agreement with Najib, with Jusuf as the middleman, but Anwar claimed that Barisan Nasional (BN) nullified it through the way they campaigned.

During a press conference yesterday, Anwar also denied that he met with Najib, instead the agreement was signed separately after receiving advice from the supreme leaders of Pakatan Rakyat.

He said that he will meet with Jusuf in the near future to clarify the matter.
