RM1 Million Multi-Functional Library in Klang

KLANG, 1 May: In accordance with the State Government’s efforts of wanting to ‘localise knowledge’ for the people in Selangor, another Selangor Public Library Cooperation (PPAS) has been opened here in Sungai Udang.

PPAS which is a two-storey multi-functional library cost RM1 million and is also facilitated with free wifi, computers, study rooms and a seminar room which can accommodate 100 people at any given time, as well as a playground outside.

Education, Higher Education and Human Capital Development Exco, Dr Halimah Ali said that the initiative was made so that the people in that Klang Straits can elevate knowledge.

She said that the State Government is always providing space for people from all walks of life to not fall behind in the development of knowledge resources.

“We built it because we do not want children to spend time in cyber cafes as I have received complaints from parents.

“We built a multi-functional (library) because we do not want the old library concept like before, if we do that, people might not want to visit it,” she said in her speech at the PPAS opening ceremony.

The Opening Ceremony was officiated by the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Also present was the state PPAS Director, Mastura Mohamad.

Meanwhile, Abdul Khalid hopes that the residents in the surrounding area will take advantage of the facility.

“We have built it with a family leisure concept, we hope that the residents can gain knowledge continuously in accordance with the concept of making Selangor a state of knowledge,” he said.

The Sungai Udang PPAS is the ninth PPAS built in Selangor.
