SHAH ALAM, august 14: The Selangor Football Team is determined to continue the ‘Mission 33’ Malaysia Cup to capture the tournament trophy.

The Secretary General of the Selangor Football Association (FAS), Rosman Mohd Ibrahim said that the Selangor players are at their best, with strong commitment towards the success of the mission.

“Mission 33 continues despite it not being touted, so as to not put pressure on the players.

“The players understand the importance of the Malaysia Cup and they have stated that they will do their best in this championship,” he said when contacted by TVSelangor.

Rosman said that the Selangor team has a fair chance to capture the Malaysia Cup based on their recent performance after finishing second in the Super Cup 2013.

“All players are ready and at their best,” he said.

He hopes that Selangor fans will give their full support, and even considers the fans as the twelfth player.

In the Malaysia Cup this time, Selangor is placed together with ATM, Sime Darby and Johor in Group A.

ATM (Malaysian Armed Forces) was the Malaysia Cup runners-up last season, with Sime Darby being the Premier League runners-up and Johor being third in the Premier League.

If Selangor is placed in the top two, they will meet the representatives of Group D which consists of the champion of the Super Lions XII, Perak, Premier League champions, Sarawak, and Kedah,

For two consecutive seasons, Selangor was eliminated in the semi-finals when they lost 1-4 on aggregate to Terengganu in 2011 and lost 0-3 on aggregate to Kelantan in 2012.

The last time Selangor emerged as champions in the Malaysia Cup was in 2005 after beating Perlis 3-0 in the 32nd championship.

Selangor’s best chance to clinch the title was in the 33rd championship in 2008 when they reached the final but lost 2-3 to Kedah.
