SHAH ALAM, 22 Nov: The Selangor State Assembly (DNS) Deputy Speaker, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, ordered the Assemblyman for Sungai Burong, Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias, to leave the hall because of the Barisan Nasional (BN) representative’s refusal to comply with orders.
Nik Nazmi decided that in accordance with the Standing Order 44 (2) following Shamsudin’s actions of not respecting the power of the speaker and refused to sit down despite repeatedly being asked to do so.
“I ran a good debate, so I ask Yang Berhormat (the honourable) Sungai Burong to sit now.
“Read the standing orders! If you are unhappy with the speaker’s decision, you can put forward a motion,” he said during the debate session.
The incident began when Halimaton Saadiah Bohan (BN-Kota Damansara) wanted to raise the issue of the rent increase for the people’s housing project flats (PPR) by the state government which she claimed began ‘as early as June 2013’.
The Government subsequently raised the Standing Rules 36(6) that the statement by the Kota Damansara Assemblyman is an evil thought and asked for it to be retracted.
When she refused to retract the statement, Shamsuddin then tried to stand up to defend the actions by the Halimaton without reference to any standing rules.
Nik Nazmi, who was calm, repeatedly reminded the Selangor Opposition Leader to use the proper motions if he wants to intervene or is not satisfied with the Speaker.
However, the dispute that lasted over five minutes grew chaotic when Shamsudin remained standing to present his argument.
“Seeing that Yang Berhormat still does not want to hear the Speaker’s orders, with this I order the Sungai Burong representative to leave ,” said Nik Nazmi.
