KUALA LUMPUR, 29 Jan: The PAS Mursyidul Am, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, challenged Umno-BN to not place a candidate for the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election if they think that the vacancy of the seat is a waste and an insult to the democracy process.
Quoted from Harakah Daily, he said that pro-Umno newspaper reports that the vacancy of the seat is an attempt to manipulate democracy is nauseating because of Umno’s move to snatch the Perak Government in 2009 was more disgusting.
“Perhaps Umno forgot their move in Perak in 2009. That is a move that is really disgusting by totally turning their backs on democracy and snatching the government through the back door. Umno, do not act like you are good because their sin in Perak is still fresh in our memory.
“I would like to challenge Umno and Barisan Nasional, if they think that the vacancy of the seat at the Kajang DUN is a waste and an insult of the democracy process, to not place a candidate in the by-election,” he said in a statement on Facebook.
He said that certainly PKR has certain reasons that the move had to be taken and PAS awaits clarification regarding the matter.
“A lot of people have contacted me to ask my opinion on the Kajang DUN issue, which was vacated by its people’s representative. I do not know about the strategy or issue leading to the vacancy.
“Therefore, I have to wait for an explanation from PKR themselves, as they certainly have specific reasons so much so this move had to be taken. In this matter, PAS’s attitude should be decided by the President of PAS, as the executive power in the party based on current considerations,” he said.
Yesterday, the Chief Minister of Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, announced the PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the candidate of the party for the Kajang DUN by-election.
The Kajang DUN seat was vacant following the resignation of its Assemblyman, Lee Chin Cheh, which was declared by the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) Speaker, Hannah Yeoh the day before.
