SHAH ALAM, 9 Dec: The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, is disappointed with the resignation of the Sungai Burong Assemblyman, Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias, as the Selangor Opposition Leader and the Chairman of the State Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman.
He said that the position is an important role in the management of the state as a check and balance to the state government.
He said that the role should be utilised to provide justice to the people.
“The state government is always trying to establish a mature democracy by taking after the Westminster system with the role of the opposition in the administration to not be stigmatised or discriminated against.
“It is the responsibility of the government to provide facilities to them to perform their duties,” he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, Shamsudin resigned and said that the decision was made after he refused the appointment as the PAC Chairman.
Commenting further on this decision, Mohamed Azmin said that the appointment of the Opposition Leader as the PAC Chairman is to further enhance the effectiveness of the democratic system in Selangor.
“The Selangor Opposition Leader should chair the state PAC and receive facilities that commensurate with the responsibilities shouldered.
“I thank the involvement of other Assemblymen from the opposition who are active in the Selangor State Assembly Select Committees and play out their responsibilities,” he added.
