SHAH ALAM, 31 Jan: No longer can it be denied that Selangor has produced many sporting stars in the country, especially in the number one sport in the country, football.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that this includes the best goalkeeper the country has ever had, the late Datuk R.Arumugam.
“We do not just have the late Datuk Mokhtar Dahari, but many others just like him.
“We should remember his services to the state and the country, and uplifted as an inspiration to not just football players, but everyone,” said Mohamed Azmin to Selangor Kini after launching the Lambaian Kaabah Selangorku programme recently.
He said this in conjunction with the birthday memorial of Arumugam today.
Apart from football stars Arumugam and Mokhtar, also hailing from Selangor are Datuk Santokh Singh, Zainal Abidin Hassan, Khalid Ali, Reduan Abdullah, and Malayan football king, Datuk Ghani Minhat, and many more.
The Selangor team, nicknamed ‘The Red Giants’ is the team that has won the Malaysia Cup the most, which is 32 times.
Apart from football, Selangor has also produced many other sports champions such as the Sidek family (badminton), Foo Kok Keong and many more.
