SHAH ALAM, 20 Jan: The aspect of enforcement has been reinforced to prevent dengue as the practice of gotong-royong (mutual cooperation) is not really effective, said Mayor Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad.
He said that part of the community is not affected by such programmes because they undermine the issue of hygiene and healthcare.
“We will figure out forms of punishment that will be enforced in terms of suitability.
“If we do not do this (enforcement), the people will not be aware and continue to take it lightly,” he said during a media conference after the swearing-in ceremony here, this morning.
He was previously the Director of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) before he was appointed as the 7th Mayor on January 2.
Between January 11 and 17, 271 dengue cases were reported in the area under MBSA’s administration.
