Open counters for jobs, not PTPTN

SHAH ALAM, MAR 20: The National Higher Education Corporation (PTPTN) opening their counters at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA 2) proves their failure to understand the real issue faced by borrowers who default payment.

KEADILAN Communication Director, Fahmi Fadzil said, the government should be well aware that the issue is due to the failure to plan and implement policies relating to education loan schemes, particularly to ensure repayments.

“The public is well aware that at times of economic gloom and when salaries are low compared to other countries, it is not surprising that the young people who just started working or those who could not even find a job would find that paying for their education fund is not a priority.

“Therefore, it is not a PTPTN loan repayment counter that should be opened, instead counters to find jobs that should be opened by government in addition to the minimum wage policy of RM1,500, as proposed by Pakatan,” he said to SelangorKini.

Fahmi said, opening PTPTN counters in KLIA2 is a drastic and desperate step by the government to get back the RM5.191 billion loan from 753,000 borrowers who have never paid.

Earlier, PTPTN Chairman, Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said, PTPTN will open counters at KLIA2 to facilitate blacklisted borrowers who wish to travel abroad to make payments.
