SHAH ALAM, MAR 12: School of Thought, organised by Selangor Youth Community (SAY) and UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd has the potential to groom young artists to expand their talent and introduce their work to the public.

The art exhibition at Segaris Art Center, White Box Publika Solaris Dutamans, Kuala Lumpur gave an opportunity to 70 painters from 13 art institutes to show off their ability and introduce their work to the public.

Aizat Amir Ahamd Sanusi, 28, who produced his work called Dreams, said that in the six years he has been involved with the art scene, this was the first time that a programme combined all works from across Malaysia in one gallery.

He added that the programme did not just help youth but also older artists and alumni from the industry in Malaysia to exhibit their talent because art is a wide field and not limited to just paintings.

“Every artwork produced has its uniqueness. Although some Malaysians are not able to appreciate artwork yet, through this programme, we can show that each piece has its own meaning.

“In Malaysia, if we choose the art field, it will no lead to success in the short term, and that is why this programme is good as it gives us the chance to possibly show our work at the international stage,” the Visual Communications degree student at Aswara said.

The programme also shows that the government has begun to acknowledge and appreciate local art talents.

Touching on his work entitled ‘Dreams’, he said that it took a month to complete.

“This panting I made is based on my experience since I was a kid as well as the dreams I had at that age, that is why it’s drawn with two different reflections of faces,” he told SelangorKini.

Meanwhile, former Sunway University graduate, Shannen Totten, 22, said the programme was a specific platform for young graduates like her to exhibit and offer her talents.

“Besides, the programme gives opportunity to artists in Malaysia to get to know each other, expand their knowledge, and share their experiences and inspiration with one another.

“For young artists like myself, this is my chance to go further into this field and bring my works to market,” she said.
