MACC to expose theft of RM100 million ministry funds

SHAH ALAM, OCT 4: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will expose a RM100 million embezzlement of public funds, allocated for the extremely poor people, involving a ministry’s senior officer.

In an exclusive report, the New Straits Times stated that MACC thorough investigation had met with many challenges as the crime was cunningly orchestrated and the perpetrators did not leave any evidence that could re-trace their transactions.

However, this time around, at least five un-named suspects in the ministry were identified through the Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Suspicious Transaction Report, which found huge flow of money into private accounts.

According to the report, one of the government project involved was a food aid for poor students.

“We are talking about a huge leakage of government fund,” the newspaper quoted the source, who described the case this time as the biggest corruption crime so far “beating all other previous cases”.

Last year, MACC arrested nine Youth and Sports Ministry senior officers who were involved in a RM100 million fund embezzlement.

The fund embezzlement was done together with 10 companies which were given ministry contract to upgrade public facilities, where the work was declared complete but nothing was done.
