Illegal Dumping: MPS does not give chance, 21 lorries seized

SHAH ALAM, 22 Oct: 21 lorries were seized by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) for illegal dumping in October.

The Director of its Corporate Department, Mohamad Zin Masoad, said that two compounds totaling RM1,000 were also issued on the illegal dumping site in Bukit Lagong, Sungai Buloh, in the enforcement rain on October 19.

“The first compound was imposed on the store owner under the Local Government Act 1976 Section 70 (b) for the offence of causing sewage and solid waste to fall or flow into creeks.

“The second compound was on the waste disposal contractor under Section 4, Waste Removal and Disposal By-Law (MPS) 2007 for the offence of littering in places not designated by the council,” he said in a statement.

Previously, the residents of Kampung Bahagia Bukit Lagong had to face stench due to a pile of soy sauce bottles and expired food products in the hill nearby.

Among the discarded items include canned food, used cooking oil, various Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) products and construction waste.

“The waste comes from the store located at Jalan Desa Aman 10.

“The clearing involves two backhoes and two RORO bins and will take three days,” he said.

He said that continuous monitoring will be done in addition to the complaints from the public to prevent illegal dumping from recurring.

“Now, dredging is being done for the construction of a drain and it is being done as a restriction method for outsiders to enter the location,” he said.
