Selangor targets family income of RM4,000 by 2018

SHAH ALAM, 20 May: The State Government is targeting for the per capita income of families to reach RM4,000 by 2018, with assistance from the State Government.

The Executive Councillor for Welfare and Women’s Affairs, Rodziah Ismail, said that in the term before this, the State Government implemented the RM1,500 income, so the target income of RM4,000 will be achieved through the implementation of several programmes.

She said, at the moment, the State Government is drafting a comprehensive action plan for working women, to increase their income and for a better working environment.

“Many things have been brought to attention. Similarly with vacancies when women are on maternity leave.

“It can be filled with other women on a temporary basis, to continue the work.

“This is similar with the approval of care centres and so on,” she said at the state level celebration of Mother’s Day 2014.

She said that the State Government will also help women who have the skills but are not working.

“We will maximise their expertise even though they are not working.

“The State Government will try our best to provide the best facilities for women,” she said.

About 1,000 attended the Mother’s Day celebration, which is held on the second Sunday in May every year, with the theme of young mother and career challenges.

The celebration was organised by the Women’s Exco Office, in collaboration with the state Puspanita.

Also present was the Chief Minister’s wife, Puan Sri Salbiah Tunut, who also inaugurated the event.
