Iskandar: Buyers of Bukit Botak Semi-Detached Houses Asked to be Patient

SHAH ALAM, 22 Jan: Buyers of semi-detached houses in Bukit Botak who have still failed to receive bank loans have been advised to remain calm and not to worry.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Housing, Building Management and Urban Settlement, Iskandar Abdul Samad, said that the state government will discuss with the housing developer involved, the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), in the near future to find a solution to the problem.

He said that it is impossible that they will allow the people, who have been oppressed over 20 years, to miss the opportunity to own their own homes, as this project is the hard work of the state government.

“Prior to this, although the offer letter has expired, PKNS will still compromise by extending the offer period after taking into consideration the uniqueness of the Bukit Botak project.

“So, the people have been asked to not be quickly hysterical because this is a state government project and it is developed by our subsidiary company, thus there is nothing to be worried about,” he said in a press conference at the Chempaka Assemblyman’s Service Centre yesterday.

At the same time, Iskandar was also disappointed when banks in Malaysia refused to cooperate with the state government to settle housing loans for the people of Selangor.

“The state government intends to put RM10 million in the bank, however the loan amount required is only RM6 million. So, when buyers fail to make payment, they will not be at a loss because there is the temporary monetary guarantee before the house is owned by the state.

“But unfortunately, although this scheme is recognised as a good scheme by Bank Negara, some banks still do not want to cooperate. These are our constraints,” he said.

The semi-detached housing project in Bukit Botak was taken over by the state government after decades of failing to be resolved by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government in September 2010.

Occupying a land area of 66.78 hectares, it is home to 1,422 units of single-storey semi-detached houses priced at RM99,000 per unit for a standard residential unit.

To date, about 100 buyers have successfully purchased houses with cash payments, while over 100 others have received bank loans, and the remainder of them have yet to be successful.
