SHAH ALAM, 10 Nov: A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed between the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and Kris Biofules Sdn Bhd to carry out the Cooking Oil Recycling Pilot Programme in areas under the administration of the MBSA.
This programme is coordinated by the MBSA with an allocation of RM200,000 from the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KETTHA).
The MOU signing ceremony was inaugurated by the MBSA Deputy Mayor, Mohtar Hani, together with the Executive Director of Biofules Sdn Bhd, Tan U-Jiun.
The event was also witnessed by the Mayor of Shah Alam, Datuk Mohd Jaafar Atan and the KETTHA Assistant Secretary-General of Green Technology, Mathumathi Ambigabadi.
Datuk Mohd Jaafar, in a brief press conference, said that this programme provides awareness to the residents of Shah Alam about the dangers of reusing cooking oil that is not processed systematically.
He said that the use of cooking oil that is not processed in a systematic manner can adversely affect health.
He added that the collection of used cooking oil will involve the residents of Shah Alam, and vendors who have businesses at premises under the MBSA will also participate in this programme.
About 1,000 people attended the MBSA November Clean Zone programme; consisting of communities from Sections 2, 3 and 4.
The Clean Zone Programme introduced by the State Government is where each local authority is required to identify an area where the level of cleanliness and beauty can be enhanced.
