Larger Development Allocation for 2014

SHAH ALAM, 20 Nov: The expenditure allocation for the development of Selangor 2014 is higher compared to 2013, said Assemblyman for Bukit Antarabangsa, Mohamed Azmin Ali.

He said that the amount was obtained when the state government, in the 2014 budget, also announced that they will utilise RM430 million from the reserves fund for development expenditure.

“This time, we see not reduction in terms of development, but at the same time, we see a more comprehensive Selangor Budget 2013 when, for the first time, the state government reserves are used in a transparent and prudent manner.

“Previously, when Selangor was under Barisan Nasional (BN), the reserves were plentiful after handing over Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, however the public did not know how the reserves were used.

“This did not involve a small amount of the reserves from payments made by the federal government, but now, the Chief Minister transparently wants the RM430 million to be used for development alone,” he said after the Selangor Budget 2014 was tabled at the State Assembly yesterday.

Earlier, the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, announced plans to use RM430 million of the state reserves to finance the development of six initiatives.

The six initiatives involved is; RM150 for the construction of the Klang Thrid Bridge, RM100 million for affordable homes, RM50 million for school buildings, RM50 million for entrepreneurial and youth empowerment, RM50 million for rural development and RM30 million for the empowerment of women.

The state government will also spend RM1.055 billion or 46.3 percent from the total amount for development purposes which will be spent for 2014, and RM1.225 billion or 53.7 percent for management expenditure, bringing the overall spending to RM2.28 billion.
