Selangor Budget 2014: The Role of Women and Youth Recognised

SHAH ALAM, 19 Nov: Selangor allocated RM11.5 million for the development of youth and sports in effort to intensify the role of young people in the state’s development programmes.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that the allocation includes RM3.5 million for youth development plans, RM7.2 million for the development of sports in general, and RM800,000 to upgrade sports infrastructure and facilities.

“Selangor is very lucky because it is a relatively a ‘young’ state with huge productivity potential in terms of economy and workforce.

“Therefore, we have also allocated RM50 million specially from the state reserved for Entrepreneurial Development and Youth Empowerment,” he said when tabling the Selangor Budget 2014 at the State Assembly today.

In addition, RM1.3 million is allocated for the women and family empowerment agenda, including the Women’s Empowerment Centre, domestic violence awareness campaigns, the Wanita and E-BU portal, ‘Healthy Selangor Women’ campaign, women’s economic empowerment programmes, women’s leadership conventions and short skills courses.

The state government will also provide state reserve funds of RM30 million as development expenditure for 2014, specially to implement programmes to generate and increase women’s income as a continuation to the women’s empowerment agenda.
