SHAH ALAM, 30 Jan: In a harmonious, multi-cultural country like Malaysia, no one who thinks maturely and is in the right of mind wants to black tragedy of 13 May to repeat.
The DAP Parliamentary Leader, Lim Kit Siang, said that he believes all Malaysians, whether Malay, Chinese or Indian, who may have political differences, always wants a peaceful country with a governance that has integrity, accountability and transparency.
He said that the people also want the country to be governed without any element of corruption and mismanagement, which has currently placed Malaysia as one of the most corrupt countries according to the Corruption Perception Index.
“The people want good governance, accountability and transparency in public affairs; zero tolerance for corruption which will put Malaysia on the top-rank of countries least corrupt in the annual Transparency International Corruption Perception Index; a just, sustainable and competitive economic system which can bring progress and prosperity for all Malaysians
“We also want a meritocratic education system recognized world-wide as producing world-class students in the top-scale of international assessment.
“Unlike at present where Malaysian students are stuck at the bottom third of international educational tests,” he said in conjunction with the Chinese New Year message yesterday.
In relation to that, the Member of Parliament for Gelang Patah, called on the people, from all ethnicities, to not entertain machinations and evil design of a small group of traitors who want to destabilize the country through the incessant incitement of racial and religious hatred, conflict and tension so as to cause another May 13.
Instead, the civil society should organize and launch a campaign “to love and save Malaysia” from racial and religious strife.
“This is the precondition if Malaysia is to be a successful, progressive, prosperous and competitive nation in the world,” he said.
