Ambiga: BN Deliberately Allowing Racial Tensions, Failed to Stop Worrying Situation

SHAH ALAM, 30 Jan: The Barisan Nasional (BN) government is seen as deliberately letting racial tensions fester among the people when they have the power to stop this worrying situation.

The former Chairman of Bersih 2.0, Datuk S Ambiga, said that Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has failed to carry out his functions as Prime Minister in dealing with serious issues involving racial tension.

She said that Najib’s move to merely ask the people to remain calm in facing this issue is did not take a firmer action and it is disappointing.

“Najib and his government should set the tone and standards and make a firm stand of zero tolerance towards those who incited racism and hatred.

“It seems to be deliberately ignores, and this shows that they (BN) really want this state of tension to continue.

“I am also disappointed by the attitude of Datuk Seri Najib Razak , together with the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, for not taking effective measures to contain it,” she said at a dialogue programme with the DAP Parliamentary Leader, Lim Kit Siang, at the National DAP Headquarters on 28 January.

Quoted from Roketkini, Ambiga, who is also a lawyer, said that the BN government should not compromise with any party or individual that tries to incite hatred and racial or religious tensions.

“Compromising will only make the irresponsible parties bolder because they believe that they are immune to the law and certainly have the potential to do whatever to make matters worse.

“This is what is happening and the top leaders of the nation who have the power are merely keeping quiet and asking the people to be calm,” she said.

In relation to this, she called on Najib to accept Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) invitation for a dialogue and discussions to defuse the tension.
