Smart Sewa to overcome urban poverty, emulated by Federal

KAPAR, MAY 23: It is believed that the Smart Sewa Scheme introduced by the State Government is able to overcome urban poverty faced by citizens particularly those in the middle and lower income group.

Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the scheme is amongst the successful ones and the State Government is expanding it further with a RM100 million allocation for this year.

“We hope this scheme will help the State Government address the issue of urban poverty which is the challenge in rapid development, not only in Selangor but also in Lembah Klang.

“This is among the successful scheme to address housing problems faced by those in the middle and lower income group, in fact it is emulated by the Federal Government.

“I thank Putrajaya who admitted that the Smart Sewa Scheme is very effective in addressing urban poverty issues in the housing sector,” he said to the media after Smart Sewa Scheme Key Handover Ceremony at Pangsapuri @Jalan Keretapi Lama today.

He added that the State Government has so far rented 69 units of houses to the target group out of which 64 units are in that apartment area while another 5 units are in Taman Tun Teja, Rawang.

He said further that the State Government is also identifying another 200 units of houses for the same purpose and is in the process of upgrading them to be rented out in a conducive condition.

“We hope this process will be completed this year as the RM100 million is approved for 2017 and must be spent this year itself to fulfil the citizens housing needs.

“The scheme provides apartments which are more popular particularly among the younger families and young graduates who just started working as they have a choice to rent these Government-owned units,” he said

Also present were Housing, Building Management and Urban Settlement Exco, Dato’ Iskandar Abdul Samad; State Government Excos, Amirudin Shari and Dr Daroyah Alwi; State Government Secretary, Dato’ Mohd Amin Ahmad Ahya; Kapar Member of Parliament, G Manivanan; Selat Klang Assemblyman, Dr Halimah Ali and other guests.
