OKU Happy to Receive First Selangor Affordable Homes Scheme

BANGI, 15 Dec: Razali Adnan, a person with disabilities (OKU), expressed his happiness and gratitude for the wait to own his own home which is now accomplished after receiving the offer letter for Affordable Homes (RMM).

He said that RMM offers housing units and its designs takes into account the needs of OKU individuals such as spacious toilets and units located at the ground floor of the apartment complex.

“The process of applying for this RMM is easy and it does not involve bureaucracy as practiced by the previous State Government,” said Razali who is now completely dependant of his wife who is a businesswoman.

The unit which is to be completed in July next year is the first State Government RMM and will be built by the State Government subsidiary company, the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

Razali was met by reporters after receiving the RMM ownership offer letter which was delivered by the Housing, Building Management and Squatters Exco, Iskandar Abdul Samad at the Bangi PKNS Complex forecourt here, today.

Also present was the Bangi Assemblyman, Dr Shafie Abu Bakar and the Deputy General Manager of PKNS (Administration and Development), Noraida Mohd Yusof.

A total of 112 people received the RMM offer letter after being short-listed by the Selangor Board of Housing Property (LPHS) after they met the set criteria.

Among the conditions is that the applicants household income has to be between RM2,500 to RM5,000 a month and that they have never owned their own home.

A total of 124 six-storey apartment units located in Section 3, Bandar Baru Bangi has been offered up at prices starting from RM60,000 to RM144,000 per unit.

PKNS has subsidised RM12 million for the project which started development in 2011.

In the meantime, another receiver, Hazhari Ismail, 33, praised the efforts of the State Government in providing RMM at a reasonable price and can be afforded by people from the middle-income group, like him.

“The State Government now is good because they are concerned about the burden and problems faced by the people and I hope these efforts will continue and will expand in future,” said Hazhari who works as an Office Assistant in Putrajaya.

Meanwhile, in a press conference Iskandar said that the State Government is encouraging more private developers to build RMMs in future so that every citizen is able to own their own home.

“For Phase 1 and Phase 2, PKNS has targeted 11 thousand RMM units and I encourage more developers to also build RMMs in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, there is a private developer who is also providing 136 RMM units in Sungai Long, Kajang which is scheduled for completion in July 2013.

Iskandar said, another subsidiary company, Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB) also has plans in future, to build a total of 300 RMM units located in Sabak Bernam.
