Sungai Burong Assemblyman asks to review the exploration problem on DID reserved land

SHAH ALAM, 14 Jan: The state government has been asked to review the problem of urban exploration that involves a large part of the residents in several settlements around Sungai Burong, which has been going on for a long time.

The settlements include along Sungai Kajang and Jalan Seri Bakti.

The Sungai Burong Assemblyman, Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias, said that most of the residents in the area cannot afford their own homes because of their low income.

He also hopes that the state government, especially Chief Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, can monitor the matter despite the fact that the land they are occupying is a government reserve.

“When Mohamed Azmin can to Tanjung Karang about a month ago, I submitted a memorandum to him regarding the problem of urban exploration in this constituency.

“The residents have lives here long, between 30 to 40 years, and their homes are built of state reserves due to their irregular incomes as fishermen and labourers.

“So, I really hope that this matter will be given attention by the state government,” he told Selangor Kini.

In addition, Shamsudin also hopes that the state government will give serious attention to the reparation and upgrading of the village roads, which are mostly damaged, especially during the rainy season.

Meanwhile, the Sungai Burong Community Service Centre (PKM) Manager, Misran Serman, said that the settlements built by the locals are on the Selangor Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) reserve land.

He said that the state government cannot approve giving the residents of the area grants or land titles although they have been living in the settlements for a long time due to related problems.

“Local authorities have conducted census in the settlement and found that their homes are on government reserve land, so in principle, the land titles cannot be given to the residents.

“But, we will not prevent them from living in the area because the state government does not have any plans yet to develop the land,” he said.

At the same time, Misran said that they are constantly monitoring the matter if they receive complaints from the locals when commenting on the maintenance of the roads in the village areas.
