SEBERANG JAYA, 30 Apr: The Lobster Feast without GST organised by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is symbolic of the opposition against the implementation of the goods and services tax (GST), which was launched on April 1.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the people can express support for PR by giving the PKR candidate, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, victory in the Permatang Pauh by-election on May 7.
“The programme today is symbolic to provide awareness and understanding to the people on how basic food is taxed but dishes for the rich and wealthy are exempt from tax.
“It has provided a lot of understanding to the people to help us oppose the implementation of the GST,” he said.
The PKR Deputy President said that the implementation of the GST has led to inflation in Malaysia when the prices of goods and services went up.
“This caused low and middle income people to be affected. Therefore, we are bring up the issue of the economy to provide awareness to the voters of Permatang Pauh,” he said.
