SHAH ALAM, June 7: PKR Strategy Director, Rafizi Ramli claimed that the police and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) are trying to delay the #Blackout 505 Assembly when they quibble regarding the permission to use Padang Merbok.
On the other hand, according to Rafizi, the police and DBKL do not have the power to disallow for the assembly to be held in accordance with the Peaceful Assembly Act and as provided in the Federal Constitution.
“We believe that we have met the needs of giving a 10-day notice to the police and to submit an application for the usage of the field to DBKL.
“Previously, the police also took a similar stand which is to receive permission from the owners of the location first, but at the same time, we are trying to get permission from the owner of the place.
“Owners of the location gave excuses that police permission has to be acquired first and this has become a game by government bodies who are in charge of caring for public property; to delay and complicate the assembly,” said Rafizi when contacted by TV Selangor.
However, according to Rafizi who is acting as a secretariat for Pakatan Rakyat (PR), the assembly will go on as planned on 15 June.
Earlier, on the same issue, the Dang Wangi Police Chief, ACP Zainuddin Ahmad when confirming the receipt of the notice told TV Selangor that the organisers of the #Blakout 505 Peaceful Assembly failed to comply with requirements under Section 10C of the Peaceful Assembly Act for not receiving permission from DBKL to use Padang Merbok.
Thus, the assembly is considered an illegal assembly should it continue.
