Aim to Make Selangor a Local, International Sports Venue

BANGI, June 10: The sports infrastructure in Selangor will be improved to attract sports organisers to choose this state as a venue for them to organise competitions.

In addition to being able to increase revenue from the tourism industry, the move would also introduce Selangor as a tourist and sports destination internationally.

According to the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim during the Shariah Court Sports Closing Ceremony at the National University of Malaysia (UKM) Central Sports Stadium here, at this time, many international sports competitions are being organised in Selangor.

These includes the Karate-do Competition participated by 15 countries, held every year in Shah Alam.

“With me, the Exco for Selangor Youth and Sports, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, will increase the appeal of sports in Selangor to make Selangor a destination to organise sporting events.

“Sport is not only good for health, but also to attract external contingent to make Selangor as a venue,” said Abdul Khalid.

Before that, the 2nd Shariah Court Sports was held for three days at the UKM Central Sports Stadium which was participated by 1,000 contingent representing states across the country.

The annual sporting event involved 10 events such as archery, futsal, basketball, ping pong, gold, shooting and others.

In the 2nd annual championship, Perlis emerged as the overall winner, followed by Perak and Negeri Sembilan emerged third.

Also present at the closing ceremony was the Chief Syarie Judge, Tan Sri Ibrahim Lembut.
