Petition: Lajim Prepares to Defend Klias

SHAH ALAM, Aug 7: The is no provision that makes it mandatory for the name of a printer and publisher to appear on election campaign leaflets under the Election Act, said the Assemblyman of Klias, Sabah, Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin.

According to his lawyer, he said that the reason which let to the only trial in relation to the election petition so far is regarding leaflets where the name of the printer and publisher was not displayed.

“If it is just for candidate posters, we printed everything (name of printer and publisher) because it is under the Election Act, but for other leaflets, it is not necessary,” he said when contacted by TVSelangor today.

Yesterday, the Kota Kinabalu High Court decided that the GE-13 results for the Klias State Legislative Assembly, won by Lajim with a majority of 179 votes, to be challenged.

This was because the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Isnin Aliasnih filed a petition to challenge the GE-13 results for the Klias Stats Legislative Assembly (DUN) won by Lajim with a majority of 179 votes.

In the four cornered contest, the former Cabinet Minister secured 6,324 votes, Isnin – 6,145 votes, Mohd Sanusi Taripin (SAPP) received 182 votes, while Aliapa Osman (STAR) received 71 votes.

Describing the excuse regarding the name of the printer and publisher as not concrete, Lajim said that his lawyer is preparing to face a trial hearing in September.
