SHAH ALAM, 11 Nov: The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, reminded everyone to not politicise the dengue problem that has swept over Selangor.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of the Communication for Behavioural Impact (COMBI) programme organised by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), he said that health issues should not be politicised.
“Aedes mosquitoes do not know whether you are a member of PKR, MCA or any political party. It can strike anyone if the community does not prioritise prevention,” he said.
He said that the prevention of dengue is important because no one’s immune system can overcome the disease, in contrast to some other diseases where there are injections to improve human immunisation.
The Selangor Health Department statistics show 11,498 cases have been reported as of 5 October, an increase by 61.74 percent, compared to the 7,109 cases during the same period last year.
A total of 14 dengue-related deaths have been recorded this year compared to the 11 cases for the same period in 2012.
A total of 230 outbreak localities have been reported, with 75 localities (32.6 percent) of them in Petaling, 71 localities (30.9 percent) in Hulu Langat and 44 localities (19.1 percent) in Gombak.
The department said that there are 16 localities where the outbreak is uncontrolled and 22 hotspots, or continuous outbreak localities, in Selangor.
