Afif asks to meet Anwar for the second time on public matters

March 13: The Seberang Jaya Assemblyman, Dr Afif Bahardin, came forward again for the second time to apply to meet the Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, after the previous application was rejected by the Prisons Department.

Afif said that the application was made again to resolve some official matters involving the Seberang Jaya State Legislative Assembly (DUN), which is also under the Permatang Pauh Parliament.

He said that there is no reason to prevent the meeting of an Assemblyman and an MP because it is enshrined under the Constitution which states that Anwar still remains as the MP for the area.

“All matters involve the interests of the people who he (Anwar) represents in Permatang Pauh.

“He has the right to carry out his duties as an MP as enshrined in Article 48 (4) (C) of the Constitution of Malaysia which states that an MP would only be disqualified as an MP after a petition is rejected,” he said in a statement.

The Keadilan Youth Deputy Chief was also disappointed with the refusal by the prisons Department previously and described the action as being unreasonable.

“Rejecting the application to visit the Permatang Pauh MP by the Sungai Buloh Prison previously is something that is not reasonable.

“Therefore, on grounds of respecting the procedure and rules of the Prisons Department, I am once again officially applying to visit Datuk Seri Anwar in the Sungai Buloh Prison on the official matter of a Assemblyman meeting an MP,” he said.
