Aziz Bari: Negeri Sembilan Is Like Driving A Car Without Insurance

SHAH ALAM, 2 Apr: Constitutional Expert, Dr Aziz Bari said that the current Negeri Sembilan Government is akin to driving a car where its insurance has expired.

This is because the Negeri Sembilan Government that received mandate in the 12th General Elections (GE-12) in 2008 has automatically dissolved on 26 March.

“This is like driving a car after its insurance has expired, this is not appropriate and I think the people of Negeri Sembilan must take note of this,” said Dr Aziz Bari to TV Selangor today.

He added that the Election Commission (EC) should have already made preparations and informed the people of Negeri Sembilan about the action taken on the issue of the dissolution of the state legislative assembly.

“What happened in Negeri Sembilan has nothing to do with the federal, it is as though the government has ended, the Assembly (State Legislative) has dissolved and a temporary government has not been formally appointed, the EC is acting like they don’t know anything.

“Therefore, indirectly the EC is giving an undeserved advantage to BN, the EC should have already made preparations, as I have said earlier, Negeri Sembilan has nothing to do with the Parliament which has yet to dissolve.

“The people of Negeri Sembilan should not pay salaries to the Negeri Sembilan Government which is no longer valid, and that is because (Datuk Seri) Najib (Razak) has yet to dissolve,” he added.

He also urged the people of Negeri Sembilan to penalise Umno-BN in the GE-13 for their deliberate action of extending their power.

After receiving the mandate through the GE-12 in 2008, the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly began their first conference on 26 March 2008.

After exactly five years of administration, the mandate automatically expired on 26 March, which is the first time this has happened in the country’s election history.

However, after the dissolution, the EC did not inform of what action should be taken by the body, which should be free from influence of any political party.

The situation this gives an advantage to Umno-BN, which governs Negeri Sembilan and the Federal Government.
