Bazaar demolished due to objections from residents, caused traffic congestion

SHAH ALAM, 30 June: The Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) recently demolished the Ramadan Bazaar at Taman Putra, Kajang, when the residents in the housing area disagreed for the area to become a business location.

This is because it was believed that the bazaar caused traffic congestion and was detrimental to the cleanliness at their housing area.

The Assemblywoman for Kajang, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said that she also found that the area was located in the Bangi constituency.

“Based on investigations by officers and Council members, the Taman Putra area is located in the constituency of Bangi and that is why we have referred this matter to the Bangi constituency Council members because it is related to the jurisdiction of MPKj, which is under their supervision.

“The Kajang constituency service centre informed the parties concerned that the residents in the area disagree for the area to become a business site.

“Although the area is outside the Kajang constituency, we hope for cooperation from all parties and ask for a solution to be reached, especially during this holy month of Ramadan,” said Wan Azizah in a press statement today.

Wan Azizah also urged MPKj to immediately issue a reason on their actions of demolishing the stalls at the Ramadan bazaar, which has received negative coverage from the mainstream media.

She said that an explanation from MPKj would be able to restrict the spread of slander, thus clearing the good reputation of the Council.
