KUALA LUMPUR, 8 Apr: BMW Group Malaysia denied that the Federal Government bought 5 Series and 7 Series BMWs, as claimed by some quarters today.
The Managing Director, Alan Harris, in a press statement, said that the vehicles are being sponsored by BMW to be used as the official vehicles at the 26th ASEAN Summit 2015.
“The cars were not purchased by the Federal Government, instead BMW is sponsoring these cars.
“The cars are being used as the official car at the 26th ASEAN Summit 2015 in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi from April 24 to 28, 2015,” he said.
According to Alan, the BMW 5 Series and 7 Series cars are being used by all delegates and distinguished guests during the summit only.
This morning, Rafizi Ramli (PKR-Pandan) confirmed the matter and urged the government to provide clarification on allegations that the luxury BMW cars were purchased when there is public outrage following the implementation of the goods and services tax (GST).
