Chin Cheh Would Not Have Resigned if Anwar Did Not Become the Candidate

KAJANG, 8 Feb: Lee Chin Cheh would not have vacated his Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat if Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim did not agree to contest in defense of the seat won by Chin Cheh in the 13th General Election.

Anwar said that the condition was communicated by Chin Cheh personally about two hours before he announced his resignation as the Kajang Assemblyman on 27 January.

“Two hours before he resigned, he met me and asked me two questions. Did I really agree for him to resign and the second question; is it true that if he resigns, I will contest.

“If I was not contesting, he did not want to resign; he did not want to give his seat to anyone else. So I said okay, it is true. He then resigned and I agreed to contest,” Anwar said when speaking at the Kajang DUN By-Election Machinery Launching Programme at Dataran Prima Saujana last night.

Anwar, who is also the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Leader, said that the conditions set by Chin Cheh were one of the factors that led him to compete in the by-election.

However, Anwar said in front of about 500 attendees last night that the Kajang Move taken is trying to be manipulated by Umno controlled media, claiming that there was a dispute between him and the Selangor State Government.

Previously, in a series of explanations regarding the tactical move called the ‘Kajang Move’, the PKR Strategy Director, Rafizi Ramli, said that the move was being taken to defend the Selangor Government from various threats by Umno, including racial and religious issues, to seize the state administration through underhanded methods.

In addition to strengthening the State Government, the move would also make Kajang a platform for Pakatan Rakyat to capture Putrajaya in the GE14.

Meanwhile, before Anwar delivered his speech last night, he also spent time meeting with the people along the sidewalk of the commercial block near Dataran Prima Saujana.
