Chubadak: Senior citizens sleep in tent after home was demolished by DBKL

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 Oct: An elderly couple in Kampung Chubadak Tambahan near here were forced to sleep in a tent after their dilapidated hut which they have been living in was demolished yesterday.

Wahida Mat Salleh, 73, and her husband, Halim, lost their shelter and are now living in a temporary tent built by activists and residents.

Harakah Daily said that the government did not defend the couple at all despite their poor lives is made worse by their worsening health.

For the couple, they did not move from the site of their home which they have been living in for over 40 years despite what happens.

Yesterday, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the developer managed to demolish their home and shelter.

During the operation, two student activists were arrested when they attempted to stop the old couple’s home from being demolished.

They are the Nasional Pro-Student Chairman Abdul Muqit Muhammad, and the Chairman for the Missionary and Welfare Council, Ahmad Fahmi Mokhtar

However, they were both released yesterday evening after being arrested and their statements were taken for over four hours at the Sentul District Police Headquarters.
