Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar appointed as new Selangor Syariah Chief Judge

SHAH ALAM, June 22: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah handed over the credentials to Selangor Syariah Chief Judge, Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar in a ceremony at Istana Bukit Kayangan here today.

The appointment was done under Section 56 of the Islamic Religious Administration Enactment (Selangor) 2003 that came into effect on May 21.

Prior to his appointment as Chief Judge, Mohd Na’im, 47, was the Director of the Family Support Division at the Syariah Judiciary Department Malaysia.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the International Islamic University Mlaysia (IIUM) and has been appointment the Malaysian Cheavening Visiting Fellow of Oxford University, United Kingdom in year 2008/2009 as well as the Visiting Fellow of Harvard Law School at Harvard University, United States of America.

In the same ceremony receiving credentials were Datuk Mukhyiddin Ibrahim who was appointed Selangor Syariah Appeal Court Judge effective today under Section 57 (1) of the Islamic Religious Administration Enactment (Selangor) 2003.

He is the former Selangor Chief Judge before being promoted to Syariah Appeal Court Judge, Syariah Judiciary Department Malaysia.

Also receiving credentials are 14 judges, 5 assistant registrars of the Selangor Syariah Subordinate Court as well as 13 registrars of the Selangor Syariah High Court.

In addition, three individuals received credentials as Senior Registrars of Marriage, Divorce and Reconciliation of Muslims and Wali Raja, while 19 others as the Registrar of Marriage, Divorce and Reconciliation of Muslims and Wali Raja.

The last time Sultan Sharafuddin present credentials to Selangor Syariah Court officials was 1 October 2013 for Syariah High Court Registrars and Assistant Registrars of the Syariah Subordinate Court.
