SEPT 25 SHAH ALAM: Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) had lost RM322,471 due to the organiser of the friendly football match between Malaysia and FC Barcelona using a bounced check.

The check was for the payment of the Shah Alam Stadium rental fees from the BSC Soccer (M) Sdn Bhd organiser for the August 10th match.

The fraud was only discovered on August 20th when the bank informed that the cheque deposited by MBSA could not be cashed because it required the signature from both of the organisers.

Shah Alam mayor, Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan, said MBSA had lodged a police report in addition to bringing the matter to the attention of International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) and the Football Federation of Malaysia (FAM).

Speaking at a press conference after chairing the MBSA today, he said the organiser could also be blacklisted from organising any further events, especially those involving the sport of football in the state.

“The organiser was charged with the rental use of Stadium Shah Alam for RM300,000 for the actual matches, and RM42,471 for the training team Barcelona.

“The organiser was only charged with RM20,000 to hire the stadium for training and the bounced cheque worth RM300,000 was given to the MBSA when the friendly match ended,” he said

In addition to the loss of rental revenue, Mohd Jaafar said the MBSA also had to bear the cost of cleanup and the stadium floodlights.
