Gold Worldwide to produce quality players

SHAH ALAM, 8 Sept: The Gold Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters Championship could be a place to produce quality local champions and challenge international professional players.

The WHB Corporate Communications Chief, Ami Nardin Ishak, said that it is hoped that this prestigious championship is able to produce local golf players who may be able to challenge players at the international level.

“We hope that local players will show quality playing that is proud to challenge international professional players.

“We do not just want to see greatness in hosting it, but we also want great victory,” he told Selangor Kini.

The seventh edition is expected to be held at the Seri Selangor Golf Club starting 18 to 21 September and offers prizes totalling RM1.3 million.

Worldwide Holdings Berhad (WHB), in collaboration with the State Government and Asian Tour, is organising this tournament which is listed on the Asian Tour and the Selangor Tourism calendar.

Last year, a national amateur player, Gavin Kyle Green, 21, managed to challenge other professional players and is ranked tenth overall.

He was announced as the best amateur player at the tournament which was won by Pariya Junhavasdikul form Thailand.

Since 2008, Ami Nardin said that this tournament has produced new talent among local players like Ong Ben Leong, Haziq Hamizan, Danny Chia, Ian Steel, Shaaban Hussin and many mores.

Ong Beng Leong is the first local player to win this golf tournament in 2008.

At last year’s edition, a total of 144 professional players participated in the Asian Tour with a total of 108 international players from 22 countries and 36 local players participated in it.
