Guan Eng: Emulate Karpal in Fighting for Justice

SHAH ALAM, 21 Apr: The leadership of the former DAP Chairman, Karpal Singh, in fighting for justice and upholding the rule of law for the sake of the prosperity of the country, especially in Penang, should be an example and a role model for all of society.

The Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng, said that Karpal’s determination in defending the rule of law in the state managed to gain the confidence of foreign investors, when Penang managed to record the highest foreign investment in Malaysia from 2010 to August 2013.

“Let us fearlessly follow Karpal in fighting for justice and rule of law as the bedrock of prosperity of our nation and economy.

“Let us show the same courage as Karpal, in not only doing the right thing but doing it right. Whether young or old, we best remember Karpal by moving forward to ensure that no one can steal our children’s future,” said the DAP Secretary-General of DAP in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Guan Eng also expressed gratitude to 3,000 motorcycle riders who came on their own accord to will Karpal’s body to the crematorium in Batu Gantong.

He said that the convoy of motorcycles, mostly from the working class, is something very meaningful to the late Karpal as a sign of affection to the DAP veteran leader, who is also known as the ‘Tiger of Jelutong’.

“The funeral by the Penang government may possible be the largest in the history of the state.

“We want to apologise to all who came from far and near but did not have a chance to pay their last respects to Karpal at Dewan Sri Pinang.

“We hope that the people can forgive and forget any shortcomings in the public funeral carried out,” he added.

Karpal, 73, died in a freak accident at kilometre 301.6 on the North-South Highway heading north near Gua Tempurung, Perak, at about 1,30 am on Thursday.

Also killed in the accident was his personal assistant, Michael Cornelius, while his son, Ram Karpal, was seriously injured.

Karpal, who was believed to be travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Penang to attend a court case, died at the scene due to severe injuries.

The accident alleged occurred when the Toyota Alphard they were travelling in hit a lorry that changed lanes without signalling.
