Hang Tuah Pool Content Safe, Studies Carried Out Since 2009

SHAH ALAM, 30 Apr: The content of the Hang Tuah pool has been confirmed to be safe based on research conducted by the State Government since 2009.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the sampling results show that there are not chemical elements or heavy metal found. In fact, the quality of the pool water complies with the parameters set by the Selangor Department of Health.

He said that the State Government never withheld information and will disclose its findings to the public in the next few days.

“We studied the water first and these studies are always done by the chemistry department which records the results of each study.

“Before treated water reaches the consumer, it must go through three stages of tests and are required to pass all of them,” he said at a press conference after chairing the Executive Council meeting today.

Previously, some parties questioned the content of the water from the Hang Tuah pool, which was feared to not be safe for consumption.

Among others, the Chairman of the Malaysian Environmental Quality Council, Prof Datuk Dr Zaini Ujang, reportedly said that the State Government’s move to obtain raw water supply from former mines is not suitable because it may cause skin disease.

“The State Government also assures that we will always ensure the safety of consumers and provide full details if there are doubts of using water from the pool,” he said.
