ICAT platform celebrates the disabled, elderly

KUALA LUMPUR, 7 Oct: The International Conference on Accessible Tourism (ICAT) 2014, which will be held from December 4 to 7, will be a platform for people with disabilities (PWDs) and the elderly to obtain a comfortable life according to their needs and requirements.

The Executive Director of the Beautiful Gate Foundation For The Disabled, Sia Siew Chin, said that the 5th conference will be held at the Petaling Jaya City Council Civic Hall and is aimed to bring the two groups towards a more inclusive global community.

“ICAT 2014 is an event aimed at bringing the elderly and PWDs towards the heart of a more inclusive global community, (and) at the same time, create awareness on the potential and niche market on this matter.

“It is the first international event organised in Malaysia and it would possible lead to increased recognition and promotion, from policies and measures to promote tourism so that is accessible to all,” he said.

Among the activities which will be carried out at the conference include an Internal Short Film Competition related to Tourism Facilities, and International Photo Contest, Singing and Dance Competition for PWDs and an Awareness Convoy.

5.2

It is to be noted that over ten non-governmental organisations will be involved in the organisation of the conference this time, including the Malaysian Council for Rehabilitation (MCR), the Heap Hope Volunteer Organisation, At-Home Creative and so on.
