Impian Malaysia: Free Classes to Help Orang Asli Children

SHAH ALAM, 24 Apr: The children of Orang Asli in Kampung Orang Asli Buluh Telor (KOABT), Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor, now have the opportunity to attend free additional classes every weekend under the Impian Malaysia programme.

The pilot programme, called the Self-Development and Bonding Class, is the first initiative of the DAP Impian Malaysia in Selangor, in collaboration with the Seri Sinar Charity Organisation (PASS) NGO and is conducted every Saturday and Sunday, from four to six in the evening.

The Assemblywoman for Kuala Kubu Bharu, Lee Kee Hiong, said that the objective of the programme is to help the children of Orang Asli who are left behind in school and increase their interest in studies.

“Many children of Orang Asli only study up to primary school. They find it difficult to understand lessons in school, so they are less interested to continue at a higher level.

“That is why this is not just an ordinary tuition class. We are trying to raise their interest through mind development games for it to be more exciting. We want to see more of them succeed in education,” she said, quoted from Roket Kini.

“Studies show that the limitations in school are not suitable for Orang Asli children. There needs to be a special co-curriculum for them,” she added.

She further said that the programme, which was launched on April 13 and is in its first stage, will run for three months.

“After that, we will evaluate it and prepare a report to the sponsors, PASS, for them to continue contributions.

“We hope that this programme is successful, and if there is a demand, we will consider holding it in other places,” she added.

She said that the funds needed are for the teachers’ allowances, necessities such as tables and learning materials, as well as food and drinks for students.
