SHAH ALAM, 24 Apr: The Selangor Pakatan Rakyat Government has proven that the Indian community is better taken care of over the past five years through continuous assistance to Tamil schools and welfare programmes to families living in estates.

Umno-BN, on the other hand, reflects their attitude towards this community by placing Zulkifli Nordin, who uttered racist words against Hinduism, as their candidate for the Shah Alam Parliamentary seat.

Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that most of the programmes and assistance by the Selangor Government for the community has never been done by the previous Selangor Umno-BN Government.

The Selangor PR Government has spent a total of RM2 million over the past five years to develop Tamil schools throughout Selangor.

He explained that since 2008, the State Government set up Non-Muslim Houses of Worship to safeguard the welfare and interests of non-Muslims.

“We have taken out RM16 million in provisions to build and refurbish non-Muslim houses of worship, including Hindu temples from 2008 to 2012.

“In fact, we have approved over 80 land applications for Hindu temples,” he said in a press conference here at the Exco Housing.

“Not only that, they (Umno-BN) marginalised the interests of the Indian community by demolishing temples,” he said.

Abdul Khalid added that the State Government also held fund raising programmes such as the Estate Workers Fund and Estate Women’s Skills Programmes, to train them to generate additional income for their families.

“Hugs and kisses to BN candidate for Shah Alam, Zulkifli Nordin cannot solve problems that have been ignored by Umno-BN themselves all this while,” Abdul Khalid said sarcastically.
