Infrastructure development is a priority for village heads

SHAH ALAM, 19 Dec: The prospect of infrastructure development is the main demand in traditional villages in Selangor for 2015 to improve on existing facilities.

Some village heads met by Selangor Kini informed that they have sent several requests to improve infrastructural demands such as roads, drains and community halls, in addition to hoping for larger provisions.

For Adnan Mohd Yatim, 66, a huge allocation is hoped for in 2015 to facilitate the task of repairing infrastructure.

“Many of our infrastructures are abandoned. If there are smaller provisions, we can repair things like drains, roads and so on,” he said as the village head of Kampung Baru Batu Caves.

The village head of Kampung Parit Mahang, Ijok, Baharom Hussien, 52, hopes for some farm roads used by agriculture operators to be repaired to facilitate the collection of yield.

This is because the price of one tonne of palm is low at only about RM350 and it is difficult for the lives of operators to not transport their farm produce.

“Lately, some has been repaired to facilitate the parishioners to take the oil palm yield. When the road is in poor condition, trucks cannot enter and the yield cannot get out,” he said.

Baharom said that the villagers are increasingly feeling the pinch of life and hope for welfare programmes previously conducted by the state government to continue.

In addition, he said that the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) also helps to clean the drains in the vicinity to prevent recurrent flooding and the last time Kampung Parit Mahang faced flooding was in 2011.

Meanwhile, Abu Hassan Lebam, 67, as the village head of Kampung Teluk Panglima Garang, hopes that the state government can provide provisions for the construction of a new community hall in Jalan Bandar Lama.

He said the absence of the community hall makes it difficult for villagers to organise various activities, especially the youth.
