SHAH ALAM, 13 Oct: The Selangor International Islamic University College (KUIS) takes the involvement of their students with activities that are not accredited by Islamic teachings and the Malaysian Government seriously.
The Office of the Student and Alumni Development Reactor said that KUIS will discontinue the studies of their students immediately if they are found to be involved in such activities.
The statement was issued as a response to the media regarding the involvement of a former student, Syamimi Faiqah Sulaiman, with activities of the militant group, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
“KUIS confirms that Syamimi registered for the Diploma in Islamic Studies (Al-Quran and Sunnah), Session II 2012/13 through an offer letter dated November 27, 2012.
“However, she failed to achieve the minimum grade in the final examination for Session II 2012/13 and was officially discontinued from KUIS through a letter from the Academic Management Department on June 10, 2013, for achieving a CGPA grade of less than 2.00, in line with the KUIS Academic Rules (Amendment 2011),” the statement said.
Prior to that, the Head Assistant Director for the Counter Terrorism Division, Bukit Aman Special Branch, SAC Datuk Ayub Khan Mydin Pitchay, confirmed that the former KUIS student departed for Syria on October 4 and it is believed that it is to participate in ISIS activities.
So far, 22 Malaysians, including three women, have been detected to be in Syria to join the militant group, while 23 other individuals have been arrested after being believed to be involved in the group.
