BATU CAVES, 3 Feb: The status of Sivan Temple in Bukit Gasing, which has been going on since before independence, was finally completely solved after the state government gazetted an acre of land for the construction of the temple.
The construction of the temple previously did not follow the specifications set and could have affected Hindus.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the decision was made after the state government examined the report by the Non-Islamic Houses of Worship Committee.
“After discussing with the state government, the temple management agreed to demolish the structure that was no in accordance with the specifications while negotiations were being carried out to gazette the place as a non-Islamic house of worship.
“After examining the report by the Non-Islamic Houses of Worship Committee and feedback submitted by the state government, we agreed to gazette an acre of land in Bukit Gasing for the construction of the Sivan Temple with the building area applied for by the management and another part used to park cars,” he said after the Thaipusam celebration 2015 at Batu Caves.
Mohamed Azmin added that there is a slope in the area that will be maintained by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).
He also thanked all parties who have provided good cooperation in resolving this crisis.
In conjunction with the Thaipusam celebration 2015, the Selangor government also donated RM320,000 to be delivered personally by Mohamed Azmin to 20 representatives of temple management.
