KUALA SELANGOR, 11 FEB: The Selangor Government denied allegations that the Malay community in Jelatek, Kuala Lumpur, were marginalised due to the Datum Jelatek mixed development project.
Instead, the Malay residents who sold their homes for the project profited many times over when the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) paid RM 300,000 to them.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim also said that the Datum Jelatek luxury apartments ownership is open to all, including Malay buyers.
Abdul Khalid explained that the high premium of RM 300,000 meant that the resident’s low-cost apartments that were bought for the project received a profit of almost RM 280,000 per person.
This is because the original price of their low-cost apartments are just around RM 20,000.
The profit enables the residents involved to buy another residence which is far more comfortable that their original two bedroom apartments
According to Abdul Khalid, the purchase units of the RM700 million project will be open to all, especially Malay and Bumiputra investors from Malaysia.
“The are many Malays who are rich and able (for example) in Shah Alam, more than 50 percent of those living in high-cost houses are Malays,” said Abdul Khalid.
He said this after officiating the Ar-Rahman (Old) Mosque Diamond Jubilee Celebrations at Kampung Bukit Badong, Bestari Jaya.
Prior to this, it was reported that several Malay individuals who reside in the Datum Jelatek project area claimed that they were marginalised and were not paid a proportionate premium by PKNS.
