JKR instructed to issue tender notice to build the Ladang Coalfields hostel and school

SHAH ALAM 10 MAY: The Selangor state government has instructed the Selangor Public Works Department(PWD) to issue a tender notice to appoint contractors to build the Ladang Coalfields school and hostel in Sungai Buloh.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, ordered PWD to speed up the tender process so that construction works can begin and it is expected to be completed within a period of 18 months.

“ The State Government hopes that this decision will speed up the construction process, in line with the vision to uplift the education institution for the children of the farmers,” said Abdul Khalid.

He made the decision after chairing the State Economic Action Council meeting where he was briefed regarding the hostel construction by a few government agencies, including the Kuala Selangor district council ,the Kuala Selangor Land Office, the State Economic Planning Unit(UPEN) and the Public Works Department.

At the briefing, the State Government was notified that the appointment process for the contractor’s was conducted by the previous Executive Councillor in charge of the estate worker’s welfare who did not follow proper procedures.

The contractor was found to have conducted work without submitting a building plan to receive approval from the local authorities, and also failed to receive approval for planning permission.

The construction, which will accommodate at least 500 students, will be paid by the Ladang Coalfields School and Hostel Trust Fund and the cost of RM5 million will be jointly funded by the Selangor State Government and plantation company, Kuala Lumpur-Kepong Berhad.

This programme targets to assist the children of estate workers obtain proper education and excel in their studies thus eradicating poverty among estate workers.
