Jom Shopping Raya: RM2.8 million provided to help senior citizens & the less fortunate

SHAH ALAM, 8 July: The tradition to return state revenue to the people is continued when the Selangor Government allocated RM2.8 million for this time’s Jom Shopping Raya (Let’s Go Raya Shopping) programme.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Welfare, Rodziah Ismail, said that just like last year, the programme is targeted to alleviate the burden of senior citizens and the less fortunate to make preparations to celebrate the Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year.

“Each State Legislative Assemblies (DUN) will decide when to start and it is expected that many will start it (the programme) next week, involving 300 entries for each DUN.

“More will be given to DUN with high Muslim population, for example for areas with 70 percent of Muslim residents, they will receive 600 coupons, meaning 600 entries,” said Rodziah when contacted by Selangor Kini today.

In efforts to increase mechanisms for channelling the state’s wealth to the people, the State Government, through the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) concept, has created the Jom Shopping programme for participants of the Senior Citizens Scheme (SMUE).

The programme was then extended to Jom Shopping programmes during festive seasons to help the less fortunate make preparations to celebrate their respective festivals.

Apart from the Jom Shopping Raya, similar programmes are carried out, like the Chinese New Year Jom Shopping and the Jom Shopping Deepavali.
