Korea increases investment in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, 3 June: The world’s largest producers of solar cells, Hanwha Group, increased its investments in Selangor, which saw the strengthening of foreign investment in the state.

Hanwha Group, through its subsidiary, Hanwha Q-cells, agreed to expand and improve facilities in Cyberjaya through the increased investment.

Hanwah Q-cells are expected to start the additional production starting September, and in fact, the company has the largest facility in Cyberjaya, apart from in China and Korea.

Selangor is also in the process of attracting investment from Korea involving the pharmaceutical industry, life sciences and green technologies, as well as promoting the Pulau Indah industrial area.

At the same time, the state government is in the effort to open up space and investment opportunities to companies involved in the halal industry in the country.

Until 2014, Korea recorded six percent total investment in Selangor, involving the manufacturing sector behind Singapore (27%), Japan (26%) and the United Arab Emirates (12%).
