Kuala Langat a Destination for Tourists and International Sports

MORIB, 22 Dec: The international triathlon event, which for the first time, organised by the Selangor Government is one of the initiatives to promote Kuala Langat as a tourist destination which offers various international sporting activities.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Youth and Sports, Public Utilities and Infrastructure, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that the organisation of such activities can attract more tourists from within the country and abroad to come visit Selangor.

He said that the programme is also a trigger to attract more people in this state to carry out sporting activities to keep fit.

“This programme is a trigger to encourage the people to involve themselves in sports and to maintain good health.

“It provides an opportunity for the state government to promote Kuala Langat and to make it the best tourist location,” he said when inaugurating the Closing Ceremony for the International Triathlon at Gold Coast Resort Morib today.

He said that the same programme will be organised next year as one of the annual activities under the Youth portfolio.

The championship organised by the Kuala Langat District Council (MDKL), together with the management of Gold Coast Morib, witnessed participation from 15 countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Australia, Maldives and so on.

The event was divided into several categories; for men from 18 to 29 years, men from 30 to 49 years, men from 50 and above, open for women 18 years and above and groups.

The triathlon consisted of three sports; swimming (1.2km), cycling (35km) and running (8km).
